Meet Me In The Forest

Who Am I?

My name is Camilo, a student of Political Science and Bachelor of Social and Human Studies at Icesi University, in Cali. I love astronomy, nature, investigation and literature. Throughout my 20 years of life, I've been into almost all kind of adventures (I'm missing going to space and climbing Mount Everest), where I've had the opportunity to challenge the things I believe and preach, in order to know myself and know what I really want and need in life. I want this one to be the most incredible adventure in my life, as one of many in the Universe. :)

My Kind of Trips

The main aim is to explore things we don't have in big cities and make memories. I like trips which involve direct contact with nature, in other words, with trees, birds, rivers, volcanoes, beaches and falls. Those I mentioned allow me to renew my energy and clean my mind from dirty things I collect in the daily journey. When I'm travelling, I like to feel comfortable and safe; I can sleep wherever I lay, but I prefer a bed or a cabin in the forest.

Why This Blog

I'm writing this entry to tell you one of the best experiences I have lived. That place is called Topacio, a natural reserve near Cali, in the South. This reserve is a big space controlled by the Government and the CVC where you can find all kind of trees and animals (not too dangerous); also, the weather is cold enough to make you feel relaxed and renewed. The most incredible thing about this place, according to my experience, is that you don't need go too far from the city to find it, because it is 40 minutes away, and the only thing required is a positive attitude.

Topacio

I have been there twice and I'm going to tell you about the last one. I went with some friends at the beginning of this year. We went by bus, where we had food and stuff we were going to need to have fun.
The road to get to that place is a bit wild –but safe– and the people who live near there is friendly and make you feel welcome. As long as we were arriving, we could see the landscapes, a so majestic view we barely have in cities, but at another level. Topacio, under my perspective, is divided into two parts: one, a bit cabin with bathrooms and kitchen; and another, a forest, very well signed, with marks for tourists to walk.
The important thing here is the forest, because that's where the magic happened and that's where we could live the experience. There were many kind of trees, animals (though I only saw small ones and birds) and a big and sublime fall; there was also a lake which was called “Water of Life”, good for sick people, or, at least, that's what they told us.
There was a young tourist guide with us, who told us all about the environment and the life which grew up there. I cannot remember his name, but he was nice and had a special conexion with that place. He had been working there a couple of years and knew it well. Down to the cabin, we had a big lake (another one), where we sat and took some pictures. There, we did some activities (like yoga), in order to connect our bodies and mind with the place, and learned some facts about the nature of our country.
